A lot has been stated in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However does the net version of this classic game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its real life kin?
Bingo has been an familiar game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had seen a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti smoking law across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored places where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t given up on this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers are now realizing that they can wager on bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on online can never replace the communal part of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a number of bingo players with little option.
