Will the Cigarette Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Players Online?

Much has been reported in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the net adaptation of this classic game offer a salvation, or will it not compare to its land based relative?

Bingo has been an established game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent increase in popularity with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the legislating of the cigarette ban all over England and Wales.

No longer will players be able to smoke while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the business is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t abandoned this age old game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers know that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and smoke and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the net could never replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
