Can the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been talked in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the net variation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the cigarette ban across Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite areas where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo halls. Players have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. People realize that they can bet on bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course wagering on on the internet could never replace the communal part of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
