Might the Anti Smoking Law in England Take Bingo Players On to the Net?

[ English ]

An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax breaks to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the web adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it not compare to its real life relative?

Bingo has been an classic game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.

No longer will players be able to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can wager on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the web can never replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the rules have left many bingo players with no option.
