A lot has been stated in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the net version of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its land based peer?
Bingo has been an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law across United Kingdom.
No more will gamblers be able to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular areas where folks enjoy smoking.
The results of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t deserted this established game?
The answer is on the web. Gamblers realize that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy big prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course playing on the net will never replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
