An abundance has been reported in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to assist in keeping the industry afloat. But will the net adaptation of this traditional game offer a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an familiar game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the smoking ban all over UK.
Players will no longer be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite areas where many people like to smoke.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not deserted this age old game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can bet on bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course playing on the internet could never replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the law has left a lot of bingo players with little option.
