Could the Smoking Ban in England Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But can the internet version of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it not compare to its real life relative?

Bingo is an age old game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a weekend. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favored locations where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they have not given up on this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and fag and still enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the internet will never replace the social part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the law has left a good many bingo players with no choice.
