An abundance has been talked in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the businesses afloat. However will the web adaptation of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it never compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo is an classic game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law across UK.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most common areas where people enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can play bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cig and in the end, enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course playing on the net could never replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
