Could the Anti Smoking Law in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Players Online?

A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the cigarette ban in the UK. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the internet variation of this classic game provide a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an enduring game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent resurgence in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti smoking law around Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular areas where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they have not deserted this familiar game?

The answer is online. Players realize that they can participate in bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at huge cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course playing on the net can never replace the communal part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with little alternative.
