Could the Anti Cigarette Law in England Force Bingo Enthusiasts Online?

A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax breaks to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the internet adaptation of this classic game present a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based peer?

Bingo is an age old game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the legislating of the cigarette ban around Britain.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Surely they haven’t abandoned this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
